Fluorophores and Dyes

Fluorophores and dyes are used to stain and detect the presence of certain molecules and compounds. Fluorophores can emit a specific wavelength of light upon excitation and are often bonded to macromolecules. Fluorophores that act as dyes include Fluorescein, Texas Red, and X-Rhodamine, while DAPI, Ethidium Bromide, Propidium Iodide, Hoechst 33342, Acridine Orange, and 7-AAD act as nucleic acid dyes.
