Anti-Epidermal growth factor antibodies are directed against the protein encoded by the gene EGF in humans. The gene may also be known as HOMG4, URG, pro-epidermal growth factor, and beta-urogastrone. Structurally, the protein is reported to be 134 kilodaltons in mass and antibodies to the EGF antigen may be useful for studying growth factor signaling. Based on gene name, canine, porcine, monkey, mouse and rat orthologs may also be found.
