Flow Cytometers / Flow Cytometry Systems Flow cytometers are specialized instruments that analyze populations of cells and particles using laser-based fluorescence detection. Particles are suspended in a stream of fluid and flow through a detector in a single file. Individual particles are then analyzed using fluorescent markers, such as conjugated specific antibodies. A cell sorter is a type of cytometer that also isolates and collects desired cell populations for further analysis or for cell culture. Image cytometers, meanwhile use microscopy and fluorescence imaging capabilities for cell analysis. Flow cytometry is widely used in basic and clinical research for techniques such as cell counting, cell characterization, cell-based assays, protein and biomarker detection, microbial analysis, and more.
