
Next generation sequencing (NGS) kits harness high-throughput techniques to answer a variety of genomic questions in many types of biological samples. NGS methods produce large amounts of data had have revolutionized genomic analysis; however a limiting factor is the ability to prepare samples with adequate throughput. The total sample preparation process can be divided into four areas: sample fragmentation, purification, enrichment, and library construction. With manual protocols these steps require significant manipulation and many hours of skilled genomic library production. Fully automated systems (post fragmentation), combine DNA library preparation and production into automated systems, at times producing sequence ready DNA libraries at a 5 times greater rate than manual methods.
