Anti-SMAD family member 2 antibodies are directed against the protein encoded by the gene SMAD2 in humans. The gene may also be known as Activin A, JV18, MADR2, JV18-1, MADH2, and mothers against decapentaplegic homolog 2. Structurally, the protein is reported to be 52.3 kilodaltons in mass. Based on gene name, canine, porcine, monkey, mouse and rat orthologs may also be found.
