Fibronectin is an alias of the human FN1 gene, which encodes the protein, fibronectin 1. Notably, Fibronectin is known to play a role in angiogenesis and cell adhesion, among other functions. The FN1 protein is 2477 amino acid residues in length and 272.3 kilodaltons in mass. However, as many as 17 protein isoforms have been identified. Its subcellular localization is in the extracellular matrix and is secreted. In terms of tissue specificity, it is reported to be expressed in the inner limiting membrane and around blood vessels in the retina. This protein is known to be glycosylated, cleaved, sulfated and phosphorylated. Other names for this target antigen include CIG, ED-B, and FINC.
