Anti-Rad 51 antibodies are used in antigen-specific immunodetection in biological samples. The target Rad 51 is a known alias name of the protein RAD51 recombinase, encoded by the RAD51 gene in humans. This 339-amino acid residue protein is known to play an important role in homologous strand exchange, a key step in DNA repair through homologous recombination (HR). It is localized to the nucleus, mitochondria, and cytoplasm of the cell and features ubiquitinated and phosphorylated post-translational modifications. In terms of tissue expression, it is reported to be highly expressed in the testis and thymus, followed by small intestine, placenta, colon, pancreas and ovary. Other synonyms for Rad 51 include BRCC5, FANCR, and HRAD51. These Rad 51 antibodies are widely used in Western Blot experiments, among other applications.
