Anti-porin antibodies are used in antigen-specific immunodetection in biological samples. The target porin is a known alias name of the protein voltage dependent anion channel 1, encoded by the VDAC1 gene in humans. This 283-amino acid residue protein is known to be involved in the apoptotic pathway and epithelial cell differentiation, among other biological processes. It is localized to the mitochondria and cell membrane of the cell and features ubiquitinated and phosphorylated post-translational modifications. In terms of tissue expression, it is reported to be expressed in erythrocytes.
