Anti-SSEA-1 antibodies detect the protein encoded by the gene FUT4, or 'fucosyltransferase 4' in humans. The 530-amino acid protein is a member of the Glycosyltransferase 10 family and the SSEA-1 antigen is a documented cancer, pluripotent, and neural stem cell marker. Glycosylation sites have been reported.
