Anti-GLUT4 antibodies enable researchers to detect and measure the GLUT4 antigen in biological samples. This target is a reported synonym of the SLC2A4 gene, which encodes solute carrier family 2 member 4. This protein is known to function in brown fat cell differentiation and carbohydrate metabolism and homeostasis, among other biological roles. The human version of GLUT4 has a canonical amino acid length of 509 residues and a protein mass of 54.8 kilodaltons, although 2 isoforms have been identified. It is reported to be localized in the cell membrane and cytoplasm of cells and notably expressed in the smooth muscle, skeletal muscle, and heart muscle. GLUT4 is a member of the Sugar transporter (TC 2.A.1.1) protein family.
