Anti-Synaptophysin antibodies are directed against the protein encoded by the gene SYP in humans. The Synaptophysin protein has an expected mass of 33.8 kDa, but there are 2 reported isoforms. The protein may also be known as Syp1, MRX96, MRXSYP, and major synaptic vesicle protein P38. Variants of this antigen may also be found in other species, including fly, canine, porcine, monkey, mouse and rat.
