Anti-VGLUT2 antibodies are used in antigen-specific immunodetection in biological samples. The target VGLUT2 is a known alias name of the protein solute carrier family 17 member 6, encoded by the SLC17A6 gene in humans. This 582-amino acid residue protein is reported to be a multifunctional transporter that transports L-glutamate as well as multiple ions such as chloride, proton, potassium, sodium and phosphate. It is localized to the cytoplasmic vesicles and cell membrane of the cell and features glycosylated post-translational modifications. In terms of tissue expression, it is reported to be highly expressed in the adult brain.
