Company:

Thermo Fisher Scientific

Product Name:

TrypLE Express

Catalog Number:

12604013

Trypsin is a common reagent for detaching adherent cells, but must be stored frozen and activity can decline over time. The TrypLE Express solution acts in a similar way to left adherent cells off of cell culture flasks but can be stored at room temperature and is more stable over time.

Experimental Design and Results Summary

Application

Cell culture

Starting Material

Adherent cell lines

Tips

May act slower than trypsin for some cell lines.

Results Summary

I add the same volume of TrypLE as I do for trypsin and incubate at 37C, but sometimes longer incubation is needed for cells to fully detach. there is no need to make aliquots for freezing as the whole bottle can be store at room temp with no loss of activity.

Summary

The Good

Increased temperature stability.

The Bad

Somewhat slower than trypsin.

The Bottom Line

This is a great alternative to trypsin not only for convenience, but is also more gentle on the cells which may shorten their recovery time.
