CD38 is an antigen that is typically classified as a 'secondary' marker. It does not help in lineage identification as it is expressed on a variety of cells, including activated T and B cells, NK cells, and monocytes (and brightly on plasma cells). In our lab's work, we also use it as a prognostic marker for CLL. Here, I show that this antibody stains the cells it is expected to, but is it bright enough?

The results show a normal peripheral blood specimen stained with this antibody, I highlighted the monocytes (in red) to show that there was a good resolution on these cells. The lymphocytes have variable expression (depending on their activation status), while the granulocytes are negative.
