This review is for a repeater pipette that can be used for dispensing fixed volumes of solution into multiple samples. Gilson's DISTRIMAN can dispense aliquots ranging in volume from 1 µL to 1.25 mL with the combination of its three models of DISTRITIPS syringes. Each syringe can dispense up to 125 aliquots (of the minimal volume).

Experimental Design and Results Summary

Application

Repeat pipetting

Starting Material

Liquid solution

Protocol Overview

Depending on the range of the liquid you want to dispense, choose a syringe and attach it to the pipet. Select the syringe type and volume for dispensing. Fill the syringe to the top and use the dispenser for dispensing the required volume repeatedly until the syringe is empty.

Tips

Lock the syringe in place for filling solution into it. Discard the first attampt for dispensing as it may not be of accurate volume.

Results Summary

You can dispense a fixed amount of liquid into multiple tubes. However, its not the best solution for plates; you can use multi-channel pipettes for that.

Features Summary

Wide range of volumes for dispensing, good sampling size.

Summary

The Good

A wide range of dispensing volumes: 1 µL to 1.25 mL per sample

The Bad

The design is not very user-friendly. The syringe lock is hard to figure out and setting up dispensing volume is confusing.

The Bottom Line

A great tool to have in the lab if you are making a lot of aliquots or performing multiple reactions in tubes instead of plates.
