Spin Columns for DNA Purification

The spin column method of isolating DNA or RNA is widely used in many nucleic acid purification kits. A type of solid-phase extraction, the principle relies on nucleic acid binding to a solid surface, such as silica gel. Once the cellular lysate is eluted, the addition of buffers with varying conditions, such as in pH or salt concentration, facilitates nucleic acid binding and removal of unwanted particles. 96-well filter plates for centrifugation are also ideal for DNA extraction workflows that require higher throughputs.
