Blastidicin or Blasticidin S is a nucleoside antibiotic used as a fungicide, developed for the control of rice blast disease. It inhibits translation by interfering with ribosomal peptidyl transfer. It is fast acting and causes cell death rapidly. Blasticidin resistance is used as a selectable marker in recombinant DNA experiments, allowing successfully transformed cells to be identified.
