Protein A/G Antibody Purification

Antibody purification with protein A and protein G uses recombinantly expressed protein to purify IgG antibodies from several species. Protein A is a 42 kilodalton protein originating from Staphylococcus, while protein G originates from Streptococcus. Both proteins have a high binding affinity for the IgG class of immunoglobulins. A combination of both proteins, known as protein A/G, is formed from the fusion of their IgG binding domains. Purification methods that employ protein A, protein G, or protein A/G include magnetic beads, agarose beads, spin columns, and resins. These are useful in isolating polyclonal antibodies from serum or monoclonal antibodies from hybridoma cell lines.
