In March 2022, Jackson ImmunoResearch Laboratories celebrated its 40th anniversary. The company, founded by William J. Stegeman in 1982, has been focused on secondary antibody manufacture, conjugation, and supply since its inception. Partner company Jackson ImmunoResearch Europe was founded in 2004 and together they are now a global leader of secondary antibody manufacturing with extensive experience in immunoglobulin purification, conjugation, and lyophilization.
But the company is not resting on its laurels. It continues to optimize processes and develop new products and technologies to meet the demands of life scientists.
Among its recent innovations are Affinipure™ VHH Secondary Antibodies, which are a specialized detection reagent that harnesses the unique properties of VHH Fragments to produce high-quality results. "We are really excited to launch Jackson ImmunoResearch Affinipure™ VHH Secondary Antibodies to the marketplace,” remarked David A. Fancy, Ph.D., COO. “The single-domain antibody market is exploding; these antibodies are one-tenth the size of canonical immunoglobulins, making them ideal for drug delivery and super-resolution imaging, among many other potential uses."

According to the company, polyclonal detection reagents continue to offer the best signal strength by amplifying signal, even for poorly expressing targets. Offering a heterogeneous population of antibodies, each detecting a different portion of the primary antibody, the polyclonal Affinipure™ VHH Secondary Antibody can increase labeling efficiency, resulting in brighter signal. They are available conjugated to reporter enzymes and a range of fluorescent dyes, including Alexa Fluor®, providing scope for high-resolution immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence.
Affinipure™ VHH Secondary Antibodies, like all the other antibodies sold by Jackson ImmunoResearch, are manufactured at its laboratories near Philadelphia in West Grove, PA. Unlike many prominent antibody vendors that get at least some of their catalog items from smaller manufacturers, Jackson ImmunoResearch produces all of its products in-house. Jackson ImmunoResearch Europe, situated near Cambridge U.K., serves the European, Middle Eastern, and North African markets.
