MRF is an alternative name for the human MYRF gene, which encodes the protein, myelin regulatory factor. It has been mentioned that MRF plays a role in oligodendrocyte differentiation and the regulation of transcription, among other functions. Structurally, the MYRF protein is 1151 amino acid residues in length and 124.4 kilodaltons in mass. However, as many as 2 protein isoforms have been identified. It is localized to the nucleus, ER, and cytoplasm of the cell. In terms of tissue specificity, it is reported to be expressed in the lung, ARPE-19 cell line, brainstem, uterus and, to a lesser extent, in basal ganglion and liver.
