Functionally, this protein is known to catalyze the final rate-limiting step of glycolysis by mediating the transfer of a phosphoryl group from phosphoenolpyruvate (PEP) to ADP, generating ATP. The canonical protein structure is reported to have an amino acid length of 531 residues, a mass of 57.9 kDa, and is a member of the Pyruvate kinase protein family. It is known to be localized in the nucleus and cytoplasm. As many as 3 protein isoforms have been reported. The protein has been noted to be post-translationally acetylated and phosphorylated. Other alias names for this target include HEL-S-30, OIP3, PK3, PKM2, TCB, THBP1, p58, and CTHBP.
