Anti-L1 cell adhesion molecule antibodies are directed against the protein encoded by the gene L1CAM in humans. The gene may also be known as CD171, SPG1, CAML1, HSAS, HSAS1, and neural cell adhesion molecule L1. Structurally, the protein is reported to be 140 kilodaltons in mass. Based on gene name, canine, porcine, monkey, mouse and rat orthologs may also be found.
