Anti-G6PD antibodies are used in the immunodetection of the protein glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase. In humans, the canonical protein has a reported length of 515 amino acid residues and a mass of 59.3 kDa. Its subcellular localization is in the membrane and cytoplasm. Up to 3 different isoforms have been reported for this protein. It is notably widely expressed in many tissue types. A member of the Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase protein family, G6pd is known to catalyze the rate-limiting step of the oxidative pentose-phosphate pathway, which represents a route for the dissimilation of carbohydrates besides glycolysis. Post-translational modifications have been described, including acetylation. The G6PD gene has been associated with the disease, Anemia. Synonyms for this target antigen include glucose-6-phosphate 1-dehydrogenase, epididymis secretory sperm binding protein, and G6PD1. G6PD gene orthologs have been reported in the mouse, rat and bovine species.
