Anti-Aquaporin 4 antibodies are directed against the protein encoded by the gene AQP4 in humans. The gene may also be known as MIWC, WCH4, aquaporin type4, and mercurial-insensitive water channel. Structurally, the protein is reported to be 34.8 kilodaltons in mass. The AQP4 marker can be used to identify Alveolar Type I Cells.* Based on gene name, canine, porcine, monkey, mouse and rat orthologs may also be found.
