Anti-Brevican antibodies are used for the immunodetection of the protein encoded by the BCAN gene. In humans, the canonical protein has a reported length of 911 amino acid residues and a mass of 99.1 kDa. Its subcellular localization is in the extracellular matrix and is secreted. Alternative splicing is reported to yield 2 different isoforms for this protein. It is reported to be expressed in the retina, specifically in the inner nuclear layer, inner plexiform layer and ganglion cell layer. A member of the Aggrecan/versican proteoglycan protein family, it is believed to play a role in the terminally differentiating and the adult nervous system during postnatal development. Other names for this target antigen include brain-enriched hyaluronan-binding protein, chondroitin sulfate proteoglycan 7, chondroitin sulfate proteoglycan BEHAB, and brevican core protein. A number of Brevican antibodies have been mentioned in research publications and have associated citations. Western Blot is a widely used application for these antibodies. Immunocytochemistry and Immunohistochemistry are also common applications.
