Company:

Promega

Product Name:

GSH-Glo™ Glutathione Assay

Catalog Number:

V6912

The Promega GSH-Glo Glutathione Assay is used to quantify reduced glutathione in cultured cells, and it is a much faster alternative to HPLC or classic colorimetric/fluorometric thiol assays.

Experimental Design and Results Summary

Application

ELISA

Starting Material

Cell culture

Tips

Use white, opaque plates and Remove medium for best sensitivity

Results Summary

From reagent addition to read is under an hour (30 min + 15 min), and the glow half-life is >2 hours. Do note that this kit reports reduced GSH, not GSSG or a true GSH/GSSG ratio.

Summary

The Good

Fast and stable glow signal

The Bad

Measures reduced GSH and not GSSG/ratio out of the box

The Bottom Line

GSH-Glo is a fast, sensitive, plate-based luminescence assay that quantifies reduced glutathione in under an hour without HPLC or fluorescence interference, making it well suited to cell, tissue, and blood oxidative-stress work. It reports reduced GSH rather than GSSG or a redox ratio, and medium usually has to come off, but for routine toxicology or screening that trade-off is worth it. I would recommend it.
