Recent physiological investigations demonstrate the presence of mitochondria in the fine processes of astrocytes, however, potential roles for astrocyte mitochondria remain poorly understood. We assessed the contribution of astrocyte oxidative phosphorylation to a variety of mouse behaviors by deleting cytochrome oxidase (COX) or Complex IV selectively in astrocytes.
