Pen strep is an antibiotic used for cell culture. penicillin and streptomycin are used to prevent bacterial contamination of cell cultures due to their effective combined action against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Usually is added to media at 1% to prevent contamination.

Results Summary

No contamination is very safe for the cells and until now, I never had any issues with this. It is important to store them well and avoid freeze and thaw. Following reconstitution, aliquot and freeze (-20°C) for long-term storage or refrigerate (4°C) for short-term storage. Stock solutions are stable for up to 6 months at -20°C or for up to 2 weeks at 4°C.
