Product Name:

Geneticin

Catalog Number:

10131-019

We use this antibiotic to select for mammalian cells with an integrated resistance cassette for Geneticin/G148.

Experimental Design and Results Summary

Application

Antibiotic resistance selection

Starting Material

Genome engineered cell lines with a construct containing geneticin G148 resistance cassette

Tips

Need to adjust concentration for particular cell lines

Results Summary

This product worked well in our hands. We did a concentration curve to determine at what dilution the saturating percentage of selection happens. This was easy to determine for our construct that also contained a fluorescent protein.

Summary

The Good

Reliable G148 selection

The Bad

Not compatible with Penicillin/Streptomycin

The Bottom Line

In stable cell lines, we perform a couple of passages adding Geneticin into the cultures to ensure the population remains homogeneous once in a while. There is no need to continuously maintain the cells in Geneticin.
