The Accuri C6 offers a budget friendly option for a bench top flow cytometer. This first generation model is priced under $50,000, is light weight, comes in several different configurations and has a very small footprint making it an ideal personal flow cytometer. It has a very easy set up and the software interface is easy to navigate, however the analysis using the CFlow software is a little cumbersome. Routine maintenance is easy and is recommended every couple of months.

Protocol Overview

The Accuri C6 flow cytometer is a personal cytometer from BD Biosciences. It has a tiny footprint and can be portable. The set up is quick and easy. Running samples is intuitive, but I prefer data analysis using Flowjo software. This instrument can be used for both teaching and research applications.

The Bottom Line

This machine was one of the first personal (and affordable) flow cytometers. It has performed well with basic immunophenotyping, DNA and cell cycle analyses. Over time the filters seem to clog and the replacement valves are expensive. The machine might not be as robust as newer personal flow cytometers such as the Attune.
