SYBR Safe is a bright easy to use replacement for ethidium promode in DNA agarose gels. It requires little to no optimization and yields clear DNA results. It can be handled anywhere in lab and doesn't require special disposal. The only caveat is that is more expensive than the alternative.

Protocol Overview

For a 1.5% gel mix 1.5g of agarose into 100ml of TAE buffer and microwave until dissolved. Swirl occasionally. Let agarose cool slightly at room temperature then add 5ul of SYBR safe swirl to mix. Pour into desired caster and let set.

Tips

You can add SYBR safe effectively at almost anytime while the agarose is cooling.

Results Summary

If you add SYBR safe you will see any DNA banding patterns in your agarose gel.
