Our lab routinely uses the Li-COR Odyssey to visualize our western blots. There are a number of products that can be bought through Li-COR to aid in western blotting including blocking buffer. This buffer works just as well as blocking with 5% milk 5% serum from same species as secondary.
Western blotting
Nitrocellulose membrane containing transferred murine protein samples from SDS gel
Incubate blot in 10ml blocking buffer for 1hr at room temperature before proceeding to primary antibody incubation.
Be sure to wash well before imaging
Blots with little to no background signal.
