We use our MagNA Lyser to bead beat a variety of mouse of organs in order to collect RNA as well as create a supernatant to detect reactivated virions in infected mouse organs. We selected this product on a referral from a colleague.
Bead Beating for RNA Collection
Mouse Lung, Spleen
Mice are infected with latent virus. Their organs are harvested in trizol and bead beaten according to the user manual. RNA is collected from the resulting supernatant and purified for anlaysis of various genes.
Tubes not fitting
This instrument is very good. It is powerful, quiet, and very easy to use. It has given us great results and is capable of processing many samples at one time. You have to be careful with what tubes you use, you need strong screw caps that won't come loose but that are also small enough to fit in the correct placement for the lid to be tightened.
