RNAlater stabilizes and protects cellular RNA in fresh tissue and cellular samples, eliminating the need to immediately process tissue samples. The samples can be stored at 4C for up to a week or frozen forever without damaging the RNA.

Fresh cells and tissues
Pellet cells and remove supernatant. Resuspend pellet in RNAlater at a concentration of 1-10 million/mL. Store in the -20 freezer until ready to use.
Even though Invitrogen claims storing at 4C is fine, I always store at -20
Great yield was observed with RNA isolation as downstream process.
