This antibody is generally used to identify platelets in whole blood. In combination with the forward scatter/side scatter, this antibody can be used to distinguish platelets from RBC and cell debris. Works very well but watch out for PeCy7 degradation.

Results Summary

In designing this staining panel, I wanted a bright fluorochrome to clearly identify platelets. The APC and PE channel were already taken by markers of interest, known to be present at low levels, and the next brightest channel was PeCy7. The CD41-PeCy7 antibody worked very well to identify platelets in the whole blood. Whole blood staining is generally performed at room temperature so I had to work fast and protect the samples from light at all times to prevent PeCy7 degradation.

Summary

The Good

Good separation between CD41+ and CD41-

The Bad

Possible PeCy7 degradation

The Bottom Line

Yes, but only if the other channels such as PE, APC or Brilliant Violet 421 are already occupied.
