Organoids are three-dimensional (3D) cell culture models that can self-organize into structures resembling the architecture and function of real organs. They are valuable tools for studying complex processes, such as disease mechanisms and drug responses in a more physiologically relevant context compared to conventional 2D cell cultures. Typically derived from stem cells or tissue fragments containing stem cells, organoids are grown in matrix-type media that mimic the 3D support of the extracellular matrix, such as ECM extracts or synthetic hydrogels. Organoid precursor cells will also require specialized supplementation to differentiate into the desired organ tissue type. Visit the media supplier page for more information, including organoid-specific growth conditions.
