Spheroids are three-dimensional (3D) cell culture models that mimic the architecture and microenvironment of tissues more accurately than traditional 2D cell cultures. They are formed by the self-aggregation of cells into spherical clusters, which can be used to study various biological processes, including cell-cell interactions, drug responses, and cancer biology. Depending on the cell type, spheroids can be cultured scaffold-free, or in the presence of a 3D scaffold, such as hydrogels. Hydrogels can mimic the extracellular matrix (ECM) that provides structural support and a 3D in vivo-like environment. Spheroids are generally grown under low-adhesion conditions to prevent their attachment to vessel surfaces. Visit the media supplier for more information, including unique spheroid growth conditions.
