HepG2 Cell Lines

The HepG2 cell line is comprised of immortalized human hepatoma cells, which have been widely used in pharmacological and toxicological research. The cells originate from liver biopsies of a young adult with a differentiated hepatocellular carcinoma. HepG2 cells are morphologically epithelial, highly proliferative, and can grow in large-scale cultures. HepG2 expresses many distinct functions of differentiated human hepatocytes, including secretion of plasma proteins and metabolism of cholesterol, triglycerides, lipoproteins, bile acid, and glycogen. Recombinant HepG2 cells with genetic modifications, such as constitutive genes or knockouts have also been generated for research use. Visit the cell supplier page for more information.
