The NIH 3T3 cell line is an immortalized stable cell line originating from fibroblast cells of an NIH Swiss mouse embryo. The line was established using the "3T3" cell transfer and inoculation protocol on a 17- to 19-day-old mouse embryo by Todaro and Green in 1963. NIH 3T3 cells grow adherent, have fibroblastic morphology, and double every 20-26 hours. Several clonal strain subtypes have been isolated from the 3T3 parental line. The sublines 3T3 L1 and 3T3 F442A, for example, are used as models for studying fat metabolism. Other 3T3 cells may also refer to distinct, unrelated cell lines, such as BALB 3T3 which originate from BALB/c mouse embryos. Visit the supplier page for more cell line information.
