Fluorescent Dextran

Fluorescent dextrans are reagents commonly used in labeling cells and tissues for studying processes such as cellular uptake, permeability, endocytosis, and drug delivery. Dextrans are glucose polymers that come in varying molecular weights, functional groups, and conjugates, such as fluorophores. Fluorescent dextrans are ideal for use in cellular work as they exhibit low viscosity, low immunogenicity, resistance to cleavage by most cellular glycosidases, and are generally stable and biologically inert. The use of fluorescent dextrans has been documented in studies such as neuronal projection tracing and intravital imaging of tissues in live animals.
