Yeast Media

Yeasts such as S. cerevisiae, S. pombe, K. lactis, and Pichia are popular model organisms partly due to the relative ease of growing conditions and their eukaryotic lineage. Depending on the application, certain formulations may be desired in their culture. Complete media such as yeast extract peptone dextrose (YPED or YPD) contain all the needed nutrients and are suitable for routine growth of broad varieties of yeast. Selection for specific species or auxotrophic strains will require different ingredients such as synthetic drop-out bases, supplements, or other specialized minimal media. Several yeast culture media reagents are commercially available ready-to-use for your convenience.
