Bacterial expression systems and kits facilitate the introduction and production of recombinant proteins from bacterial hosts. Bacteria, most commonly E. coli, are widely used expression systems as they have been extensively studied, are easy to culture and manipulate, grow fast and produce high yields. Expression kits generally contain a bacterial expression plasmid that contains insertion sites for the gene(s) of interest, selection markers, promoters, restriction sites, and tags for detection. Tags may also be specified for fusion to the N- or C-termini of the target protein. Note that certain eukaryotic proteins cannot be expressed in bacterial expression systems as they require post-translational modifications which cannot be accurately conferred in a prokaryotic cell. Visit the supplier page for more details, including kit components.
