Lactate assay kits are available from several suppliers to measure levels of lactate within biological samples. Lactate, or its conjugate lactic acid, is a byproduct of cellular metabolism that serves as an indicator for various physiological processes and disease states. Excess lactate can be indicative of hypoxia or lactate metabolic disorders, while lactic acidosis can disrupt the pH balance of cells. Colorimetric lactate assays generally employ an enzyme that reacts with lactate in the sample to couple a reaction with a chromogenic probe. This results in a quantifiable color change that is directly proportional to the amount of lactate. Note that assays may be selective to one of two lactate enantiomers, L-lactate or D-lactate. Visit the lactate assay kit suppliers for more details.
