Protein A Purification

Protein A Purification Protein A is a surface protein originally discovered in the bacterium Staphylococcus aureus. It has the ability to bind to immunoglobulins, specifically IgG. It contains five Ig-binging domains and binds the heavy chain within the Fc region and within the Fab region. Protein A can be coupled to immobilized beads and resins, such as agarose, sepharose, and magnetic beads for use in antibody purification. With protein A-based purification kits, columns, and reagents, IgG can be purified from various sources, including serum, ascites, or cell culture media.
