Gentamicin (sometimes called gentamycin) is a broad-spectrum antibiotic isolated from the bacterium Micromonospora purpurea. It is comprised of a number of related aminoglycoside sulfate components including gentamicin C1, C1a, C2, A, B, and X. The antibacterial works by binding to the 30S subunit of bacterial ribosomes ribosome and inhibiting protein synthesis. It is thus used to prevent contamination of cell cultures in laboratories. This reagent is commonly available in salt form, gentamicin sulfate. Choose the preparation and quantity that suits your research needs the best.
