Real-Time PCR (qPCR) Machines

Real-time PCR thermal cyclers, or qPCR machines, are analytical instruments that amplify DNA and measure the resulting fluorescence generated by amplification. Real-time PCR instruments measure signals generated by fluorescent probes that are proportional to DNA amplification, allowing accurate quantification of specific sequences. These devices are crucial for enabling experiments in applications such as gene expression, genetic variation, genotyping, biomarker discovery, and specific detection of rare targets, bacteria, and viruses. These specialized instruments are capable of quantifying very small amounts of DNA with good dynamic range. In addition, data can be readily analyzed without post-PCR processing, such as gel electrophoresis. In selecting a qPCR machine, keep an eye out for helpful features, including individually programmed wells, increased capacities for fluorescent color detection, faster run times, easily interchangeable blocks, automation options, remote connectivity, and access to cloud computing.
