Ferritin ELISA kits are assays designed to detect the iron storage protein ferritin. In humans, the protein is made up of light and heavy chain subunits, FTL and FTH1. It usually consists of 24 subunits arranged as a polyhedron which can hold iron in its centre. It also acts as an iron carrier, transporting it to areas in the body as needed. Ferritin that is not combined with iron is known as apoferritin. It is used as a marker to indicate iron levels in blood, especially in the detection of anaemia. Ferritin concentrations have been known to increase in conditions such as cancer and stress. Visit the supplier page for more information about detection range, origin and reactivity.
