Transmembrane Protein 159 is an alias of the human LDAF1 gene, which encodes the protein, lipid droplet assembly factor 1. The protein is known to play an important role in the formation of lipid droplets (LD) which are storage organelles at the center of lipid and energy homeostasis. The LDAF1 protein is 161 amino acid residues in length and 17.5 kilodaltons in mass. However, as many as 2 protein isoforms have been identified. It is localized to the ER of the cell. In terms of tissue specificity, it is notably expressed at high levels in the heart and skeletal muscle. Other names for this target antigen include PROMETHIN and transmembrane protein 159.
