The canonical protein structure is reported to have an amino acid sequence of 317 residues and a mass of 34.3 kDa. It is known to be localized in the nucleus and cytoplasm. The protein has been noted to be post-translationally sumoylated. The SOX2 gene has been associated with the disease, Microphthalmia. Other alias names for this target include MCOPS3, transcription factor SOX-2, SRY (sex determining region Y)-box 2, SRY-box 2, SRY-related HMG-box gene 2, and ANOP3.
