It is known to be localized in the cell membrane and is secreted and is notably expressed in all the examined tissues. As many as 6 protein isoforms have been reported. The protein has been noted to be post-translationally glycosylated. The NRCAM gene has been associated with the disease, Neurodevelopmental disorder with neuromuscular and skeletal abnormalities.
